Project Aim

At the beginning of the school year we were given the task to come up with an original idea for a personal project that we would have a few months to individually work on. During the time of brainstorming ideas I had been speaking with my father about his work connections in Africa, more specifically in Senegal. His company was involved in finding water in Senegal that could be extracted from the ground to provide safe drinking water for the people of rural Senegal. This really interested me because I had always been very fascinated by Africa and the different problems that it faces which the western world takes for granted. I knew I had a tough project idea but it was one that I really wanted to accomplish.

The original idea of my personal project was to actually travel to Senegal to build a small water pump in a rural village. However after revising my plan and speaking with both my project advisor and my father I decided that this goal was too hard to do without the proper planning. Once I realized this I knew that my project would be based around the plan of how to organize the fundraising and building of a water pump in a rural village in Senegal.

Once I knew what my project would be I began the preparation of the project by doing a lot of research. If you would like to learn more about Senegal and the problems it faces I would recommend the CIA world fact book as well as Senegal online and Senegal tourism for more information.

The main aim of the project is to help improve the quality of life of the people living in rural villages in Senegal. People who do not have access to a clean and available water source near to them. A future goal is to actually go to Senegal to build this water pump and to eventually expand the project to build more than one pump in Senegal.

We have a motto here at Clean Water For Senegal:
       Clean water brings healthy smiles.
